All the Sounds
Lucy Kalantari and the Jazz Cats
Best Children's Album
Honored by the Recording Academy to be a GRAMMY Nominee! This latest jazz age inspired album invites you to experience the sounds around us that keep us connected to each other and the world. From the sounds of summer joy, the quirky neighbors we meet including Billie Holiday and her dogs, the little boy with his little cello (played by my son!) and even the sounds of difficult and dark emotions–ALL the sounds influence our lives and make us the people we are.
Featuring fantastic performances by the Jazz Cats Linus Wyrsch on clarinet, Larry Cook on bass, Rich Kulsar on drums. And a handful of guests including, GRAMMY Award winner Secret Agent 23 Skidoo, Michael Irwin on trumpet, Adelmo Guidarelli returns as Mr. Opera Man, my son Darius Kalantari on little cello and Erich Schoen-René on big cello.
It was a thrill to write, produce and arrange these tunes, embracing the sounds from my childhood programs–I Love Lucy, Looney Tunes, Three Stooges. The sounds of Spanish community gardening–the language of my parents and where I went to school as a little girl, in Dominican Republic. Blending jazz and opera, jazz and hip hop, writing a Piazzola-styled tango for dancing werewolves, I honored all the sounds in my heart.
May we all breathe. Listen. And enjoy all the sounds!
